Envisage NanoSystems
Over the last three years cleantech has emerged as one of the most important areas of technology and business development. Until now, the provision of information services to this sector has not kept pace with the activities of the sector itself. We believe AZoCleantech will, like its predecessors AZoM and AZoNano, play a critical role in the development of this sector, by lowering barriers of information access and management, and enabling participants and investors to make better-informed decisions.
The issues surrounding cleantech are often driven by economic and environmental imperatives, social attitudes, and regulatory frameworks, which are in a state of dynamic change. The technologies developed by companies such as Envisage NanoSystems need to remain flexible and adapt with these changes. The consumer and industry driven market for cleantech solutions requires technologies to be robust, cheap, easy to use, and provide real-time solutions.
In this complex environment, we believe businesses working within the cleantech sector will gain competitive advantage from information management. The ability to easily access online resources that are clear, concise, comprehensive and contain up-to-date information is essential to remain in business. Moreover, the accelerating push for clean technologies in the areas of water, energy, air, environment, materials and manufacturing, and the complexity of innovations, means that a company can differentiate itself with its knowledge of emerging and competing technologies, and its alignment of strategies with opportunities.
Nanotechnology Victoria has worked closely with AZoNano since 2004. AZoNano has provided quality support in the areas of marketing and information management, as well as providing an outstanding news feed and search capability on their website. The team at AZoNano has also been instrumental in opening new information mechanisms, in the form of PodCasts and Weblogs for nanotechnology. We believe that AZoCleantech will deliver the same extraordinary benefits to Envisage NS, particularly as the website will provide access to cleantech companies across many traditional and emerging sectors.
Dr. Sarah Morgan, General Manager, Envisage NanoSystems
Company Overview
Envisage NanoSystems (Envisage NS) has been established by Nanotechnology Victoria Ltd for the commercialisation of a range of projects involving applications of nanotechnology to water. Envisage NS has two main activities: nanotechnology based solutions for laboratory and on-site analysis of contaminants in water, and nanotechnology based solutions for treatment of contaminated water.
Detection technologies include a biosensor for phosphate and nitrate analysis, a SERS probe for the analysis of contaminants in drinking water, and nanoarrays for the detection of trace metals. Purification of water can be achieved using metal oxide nanoparticles, which have been developed for the removal of arsenic, phosphate and silicate in water. Recycling technologies are also being implemented, with the development of the sustainable Swash dishwasher that uses steam for washing.

Complete Integrated Certification Services Ltd (CICS)
Undoubtedly the most valuable commodity available to environmental and energy managers is….time. The importance of having up to date information online is immeasurable. AZoCleantech provides a single site where all the stakeholders in carbon reduction can be found "under one roof" - verification bodies, carbon traders, green technology manufacturers, conferences and symposia, energy companies, and major corporations and institutions. In addition to this extensive company directory there is the benefit of regular news updates from relevant sources.
Company Overview
CO2 verification is CICS' core business and they have verified over €5 billion of CO2 across hundreds of sites. CICS commanded 70% market share (UK and Ireland) during Phase 1 of the European Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS) with every single verification process completed ON TIME. CICS' clients are now in a strong position for Phase II (2008 to 2012). Operating in over 20 countries, other forthcoming schemes for which CICS is uniquely placed are:
- EU ETS Phase II (2008 to 2012), including aviation.
- Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) from 2010 - large businesses and public sector organisations.
- United States emissions trading schemes such as Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) and the Western Climate Initiative (WCI).
In addition to the regulated market CICS is becoming an industry expert in the rapidly growing voluntary carbon sector. Large corporations and blue chip companies are increasingly recognizing the benefit of verifying their carbon reduction commitments for use in public relations exercises.
All CICS verification services are accredited to internationally recognised standards.

Project on Emerging Nanotechnologies
AZoNano.com is an indispensible one-stop-shop for all things nano. The extensive news coverage of nanotechnology-related developments is particularly useful, offering balanced insight into research, applications and potential challenges. AZoCleantech.com is an exciting opportunity to bring the same successful formula of centralized, freely available and easily accessible information to the world of clean technology.
In my work with the Project on Emerging Nanotechnologies, I frequently depend on AZoNano.com to get the word out regarding our efforts. Now with the help AZoCleantech.com, I look forward to seeing how efforts such as our GreenNano initiative (www.nanotechproject.org/topics/green/) - which aims to advance development of clean technologies using nanotechnology - support a growing international community concerned with the innovation, application and implications of clean technologies.
Dr. Andrew Maynard, Chief Science Advisor, Project on Emerging Nanotechnologies
About the Project on Emerging Nanotechnologies
The Project on Emerging Nanotechnologies (PEN) is a partnership dedicated to helping business, governments, and the public anticipate and manage the possible health and environmental implications of nanotechnology. It was launched in 2005 by the Wilson Center and The Pew Charitable Trusts. PEN is a leading source of independent analysis on nanotechnology policy, and publishes the most comprehensive on-line inventory of manufacturer identified nanotechnology-enabled consumer products; available at www.nanotechproject.org/inventories/.

Chamelic
In the modern world, easy availability of important and up-to-date information is critical. The simple and easy-to-use gateway offered by AZoCleantech is fantastic in this regard providing a clear route to a wealth of information. The resource is comprehensive and brings together the majority of organisations and knowledge in this growing area of technology. As a result, the web resource will prove itself, I am certain, to be an indispensible tool for people working on green technologies.
The design and application of clean and/or green technology is rapidly growing in importance in almost all areas of science and engineering. The hunt for alternative and environmentally acceptable routes to providing most of societies "necessities", such as energy, transport, labour saving devices is now on. The requirement of economically viable alternatives should also not be underestimated and this will, in itself, provide a key challenge.
AZoCleantech builds on the very successful format pioneered by its sister sites AZoM and AZoNano. These resources are now recognized and respected by technologists and scientists across the world as providing an indispensible information resource that is authoritative and current. Given the widespread interest in clean technologies and the increasing legislative pressures in this area, the importance of having a similar information resource available shouldn't be underestimated. I look forward to using the site and helping build its importance within the research community.
