Pinthong Engineering, an engineering service provider based in Bangkok, is a company that has been supporting the research and development activities of producing biofuel from algae. Closely on its heels, the Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency Department might be funding the research and development towards algae biofuel.
Alternative fuel production from algae might become commercially feasible owing to crude palm oil’s success, however, would be requiring an appropriate algae. The two universities currently conducting the algae research are the Kasetsart University in the area of freshwater algae and the Burapha University in the area of marine algae.
The Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency Department will not only provide financial support but also serve as a communicator between the Thai universities with the Queensland University of Technology and the James Cook University towards sharing knowledge on marine technology. Bangchak Petroleum will soon test the algae biofuel’s quality.
