GE has declared the entry of its high end wind turbine expertise into the commercial sector of Poland to assist the country to tide over its renewable energy needs.
Poland with its good wind potential and vast open agricultural lands is currently looking forward to reap on its wind energy potential to meet its set renewable energy target of 15% by the year 2020. The announcement was made during the formal opening of its Nekla windpark in Poland.
GE utilized its 2.5-100 technology in Poland for the first time in the Nekla project owned by E.ON Climate and Renewables a Polish company. The project incorporates a total of 21 wind turbines at seven different locations in the Wiekopolska region. GE has installed the entire set of wind turbines, completed their test run and connected them to the power grid. The GE 2.5-100 wind turbine incorporates a rotor with 100 M diameter to offer increased annual power production while continuing to maintain the consistency of power production efficiently. Nearly 14,000 units of such wind turbines are installed all over the world.
Ricardo Cordoba, GE Energy Western Europe & North Africa’s President, called Poland as one of the most potential wind energy locations in Europe with its favorable wind conditions and easy government regulations. He expressed satisfaction about the functioning of the installed 2.5-100 wind turbines that are designed to meet the clean energy requirements of the country.
Sven Utermöhlen, E.ON Climate & Renewables Company’s Regional Director for Central Europe, said that his company has chosen GE technology for their peak track record, and increased power output of each turbine unit. He added that the wind farm will enable E.ON to generate over and above 50 MW of clean wind energy for the Polish power market.
