Rules and Regulations for Sustainable and Organic Cosmetics

The global regulatory situation
for personal care products and the future possibilities for organic and
sustainable cosmetics are key issues that continue to drive and shape the
cosmetics industry.
Understanding certification under USDA regulations as well as what
constitutes the "made with organic ingredients" claim under NSF/ANSI
standards probe questions across the board. What is organic? What does
organic mean? What happens after a standard is complete? What standards are
completely applied to cosmetics?
Led by Joe Smilie, Senior Vice President of Quality Assurance
International, current USDA status and developments will be delved at
IntertechPira's Sustainability in Cosmetics 2008 conference set for
November 10 - 12, 2008 in Orlando, FL, US. To correlate with the premise, a
pre-conference seminar from Bob Durst, Principle of Simple Organic
Solutions will look at the hurdles, rules and regulations associated with
certifying cosmetic products. From USDA-NOP organic regulations to
practicalities of getting your plant certified, differences and advantages
to the various certification options will be featured.
"This is such an important topic within the cosmetics industry," said
IntertechPira Conference Director, Christine Groff. "This program will
provide delegates with a global regulatory and standards overview from
industry experts who can guide them through the regulations and
certifications standards affecting their business."
Co-chaired by Andrew Douglass of Rhodia Novecare, Dr. Liliana George of
Estee Lauder, and Dr. Donald Owen of Owen Biosciences Inc the two full days
of discussion, interaction and networking will provide a unique opportunity
for questions to be answered while networking with industry leaders to gain
advantages, share expertise and find solutions.
Both timely and practical, major players within the industry including
Aveda, Beraca, Natura Cosmeticos, SEKI Cosmeticals LLC, Ecocert, Rhodia
Novecare, Dow Corning Corp, Cognis Care Chemicals, Evonik Goldschmidt GmbH,
Procter and Gamble, FMC Biopolymer, Estee Lauder, Sophyto Organics, Symrise
AG, UK Soil Association and Owen Biosciences Inc are scheduled to share
their views on social responsibility and environmental sustainability
through interactive case studies during the various session breakouts.
