SC Johnson has installed three wind turbines at the campus of its headquarters as part of a wind energy pilot program. The pilot program is initiated by the company to help it to further reduce its green house gas emissions as well as to increase the awareness that renewable energy is not only for factories but also for office buildings that are located in cities. The company is using renewable energy at its factories all over the world. Through this pilot program, the company is hoping to acquire information that will help it to further advance its strategy to adopt more sustainable solutions.
Fisk Johnson, Chairman and CEO, said that adopting sustainable business model and using renewable energy to make a difference in the world is essential. He hoped that the company’s wind energy program will motivate other businesses to adopt sustainable solutions in Racine and other cities.
The wind energy pilot program underscores the company’s commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The program will commence in January 2010 and will be operational up to January 2011. The three new wind turbines are installed on rooftop of one of the SC Johnson's seven buildings at its international headquarters campus. The wind turbines will be connected at the company’s distribution system as soon they are fully functional. The wind turbines are anticipated to fully functional by the end of January 2010. The electrical output from the wind turbines will help to meet a small percentage of the company’s power requirements at its campus.
The company is hoping that at the end of the program a clear picture will emerge regarding how much office resources such as machines and computers the wind turbines will be capable of supporting. Based on the outcome of the project, the company may extend the project to its other local facilities.
