GE has signed contracts with HECIC New Energy to supply 88 wind turbines for three new projects that are to come up in Hebei and Shanxi Provinces. HECIC New Energy is one of leading wind energy developers in China. The country is currently the fourth largest producer of wind energy in the world and these projects will support the growth of China’s wind energy investments.
By the year 2020, China intends to add 150 GW of installed wind power capacity and to achieve this goal about 11.5 GW of installed wind power capacity has to be added every year from 2009 to 2020. The new projects will add 132 MW of installed power capacity in China. United States, Germany and Spain are the three countries ahead of China in wind energy production.
China has aggressive renewable energy growth plans and aims to increase its power generation from renewable sources to 15% of the country’s total power generation by the year 2020. GE is supporting China’s renewable energy growth plan and is committed to supply 895 units of 1.5-MW wind turbines to the country.
Victor Abate, Vice President-Renewables for GE Power & Water, said that China’s wind energy market is growing rapidly and the company strongly supports its Chinese customers to develop wind power, which will help China to meet its renewable energy target.
The 1.5 MW wind turbine from GE that is to be supplied for the projects is reliable and more than 12,000 of these turbines have been extensively deployed in many wind energy projects throughout the world. HECIC New Energy has purchased 66 of the machines in the year 2008 and commissioned the same successfully. The wind turbines that are to be supplied for the new projects will feature latest grid-friendly connection technologies such as Low Voltage Ride-Through and Wind Farm Management Systems.
