Just Energy to Purchase Power from First Wind's Steel Winds Project in New York

Just Energy, one of leading energy retailers in North America, announced that it will be purchasing power from First Wind's Steel Winds I wind energy project, located in Lackawanna, New York. First Wind is a North American wind energy company and is concentrated on developing wind projects in the northeastern and western United States and Hawaii.

Under the five-year power purchase agreement, Just Energy will buy all of the electrical output and Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) from First Wind's Steel Winds I wind energy project. The company will also bid and schedule the electrical output from the project into the NYISO power market as part of the power purchase agreement. Steel Winds I project comprises eight advanced wind turbines and is capable of generating 50 million kWh of electric energy per annum, which is enough to meet the electricity needs of 9,000 homes in New York.

Ken Hartwick, Just Energy's President and Chief Executive Officer, said that wind energy is an important part of North America’s long-term plan to meet the increasing demands for electricity. Hartwick added that the company, as a leading energy retailer, is committed to provide its growing environmentally-conscious consumers with clean energy and its collaboration with First Wind will enable it to provide green power from renewable energy sources.

Michael Alvarez, President of First Wind, said that the company is delighted to enter into power purchase agreement with Just Energy. Alvarez commented that the company is pleased to work with Just Energy to supply clean energy to those consumers who want it.
