Kyocera Corporation to Achieve 1 GW Annual Solar Cell Production by March 2013

Posted in | Green Products | Renewable Energy | Solar Energy

In order to meet the fast increasing demand for the solar power products in the world, Kyocera Corporation has set a target to achieve 1 GW of annual solar cell production by March 2013. Compared to the current target of 400 MW for the fiscal year 2010, this new target is over 2.5 times.

Kyocera Corporation has also increased the annual solar cell production targets for the fiscal years 2011 and 2012. With no upward revision of 400 MW of planned target for the fiscal year 2010, the new target for the fiscal 2011 is increased from 550 MW to 600 MW. Similarly, the new target for the fiscal year 2012 is raised from 650 MW to 800 MW.

Kyocera has completed recently a new solar cell production facility in Yasu City, Shiga Prefecture in Japan, which will help the company to meet the revised targets. The existing Shiga Yohkaichi Plant is the company’s first solar plant in Japan.

The company has also set up new production facilities and supply networks in Europe, China, Japan and North America in order to the meet growing demand. These four solar markets are the largest in the world. The module assembly capability will be continued to be increased by the company along with the increase in solar cell production capacity.
