Mitsubishi Electric Corporation Launches New PV Series Intelligent Power Modules for Photovoltaic Inverters

A new “PV Series” intelligent power module has been launched by Mitsubishi Electric Corporation for photovoltaic inverters. The power module is primarily meant for use in residential photovoltaic inverters. The six models in the series can also be utilized for inverters that are used for fuel cell systems. With each unit measuring 90mm × 50mm, the size of inverters can be reduced. The product will be ready for delivery from May 2010 through sales sites of Mitsubishi Electric in Europe, Korea, China, and the Americas.

The demand for solar photovoltaic systems is increasing to generate renewable energy and contribute to the prevention of global warming. A key component in the photovoltaic system is inverters, which convert DC power from the solar panels into AC power for use in residential and commercial applications. It is crucial that inverters that are used for residential application be as small as possible, since they are used indoors.

The newly introduced intelligent power module’s mounting surface is 30% less than the current PV Series of power modules from the company introduced in 2005. This smaller mounting size of the power module helps for inverter miniaturization. The six power modules in the series are designed to suit various kinds of PV inverter circuits. The intelligent power modules in the new PV series comply with the RoHS directive.
