Freedom Environmental Services is proposing to develop an advanced waste-to-energy facility and wastewater treatment plant in Brevard County, Florida. The company has signed a contract for 26 acres of undeveloped land for the proposed plant.
By utilizing emerging technology known as "Anaerobic digestion", the proposed plant will be able to generate energy without direct combustion from waste and other fuels. The company is of the view that these emerging technologies are capable of generating more energy when compared to direct combustion technology for the same amount of fuel.
CEO of Freedom Environmental Services, Michael Borish, predicted that these emerging technologies will have a major positive impact on the green and recycling technology sector. The facility in addition to meeting the requirements of the Freedom Environmental Services, may be used by its competitors, thus helping the company to earn additional revenues, Borish said.
"Anaerobic digestion" technology has been in existence for decades and the company believes that this technology is much more efficient in treating sewage and effluents. The anaerobic digestion process cuts down the amount of organic matter significantly, which otherwise might have been dumped at sea. The process generates rich biogas of carbon dioxide and methane, which can be utilized for producing electricity. According to Freedom’s spokesperson, the company besides earning significant revenues from the sale of biogas will also realize revenues from the sale of nutrient rich residual fertilizer from the proposed facility.
