Sungevity Offers to Install Free Solar Panels on White House Roof

In 1979, solar panels were installed on the rooftop of the White House when former President Jimmy Carter was holding office. This demonstrated the government’s intent in harnessing renewable energy resources and protecting the environment. However, in 1986, under the administration of former President Ronald Reagan, those solar panels were removed.

Today, online residential solar power provider Sungevity is petitioning the current U.S. government and the Department of the Interior for accepting the company’s offer of a solar power system free of charge. To this end, Sungevity is requesting the public to demonstrate their support by signing an electronic petition Globama. On receiving 10,000 signatures, the petition will be sent to President Obama.

The aim of the petition is to create awareness among homeowners about the affordability and convenience of using solar energy systems. Moreover, going solar helps consumers save on their electricity bills of around 15% and also combats global warming.
