Kyocera to Supply 13 Megawatts of Solar Modules to Ohgishima Solar Power Plant in Japan

Kyocera Corporation has announced that the company will be supplying the Ohgishima Solar Power Plant “Mega Solar System” with 13 megawatts of solar modules. The project has been planned by Tokyo Electric Power Company and Hitachi will be constructing the solar power plant. This will be the largest installation in Japan and is scheduled for completion in the year 2011.



The solar modules from Kyocera will be installed on an artificial island spreading across 57 acres outside Tokyo Bay. This solar power plant is capable of providing electricity to almost 3,800 homes and displaces 5,800 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year.

Solar modules from Kyocera Corporation have also been supplied to large-scale power plants in Europe and to a number of large-scale power projects. Planta Solar de Salamanca of Spain has been supplied with 13.8 megawatts of solar modules from Kyocera. The demand for solar energy for both residential and commercial usage is increasing in Japan due to the planned feed-in-tariff system and grants from the government. Large-scale power plants are intended to be built by the year 2020 as a result of this increase in demand for solar energy.

Kyocera has been successful in capturing the largest share in Japan’s market for public and industrial solar installations because of its high quality products and customer satisfaction. Research in solar energy was started by Kyocera in the year 1975 and through its continuous efforts the company has managed to deliver high quality products with constant checks on various manufacturing stages starting from the purchasing of raw silicon, producing of photovoltaic cells, and assembling completed modules.

Kyocera will continue to support the efforts to preserve global environment and contribute to energy independence by developing high-efficiency multicrystalline solar cells.
