Iogen’s Cellulosic Ethanol Production Tops 581,000 Liters in 2009

Posted in | Biofuels | Transportation

The cellulosic ethanol production of Iogen has topped 581,000 liters in the year 2009 which is more than double the company’s fuel production in the year 2008. The total production, since the year 2004, has exceeded one million liters.

Brian Foody, Chief Executive Officer of Iogen, remarked that the company continues to remain as the technological leader of cellulosic ethanol development. The viability of commercial scale cellulosic ethanol production has been demonstrated through the company’s demonstration facility, which has been in operation since the year 2004. He commented that with the achievement of this significant milestone, the company will continue to be a leader in the cellulosic ethanol industry.

Gordon Quaiattini, President of the Canadian Renewable Fuels Association, remarked that the demand for energy in the future will be met by advanced renewable fuels that include cellulosic ethanol. Iogen has taken the initiative to commercialize this technology.

Cellulosic ethanol is an advanced and renewable biofuel used in the current generation cars. Greenhouse gas emissions are reduced up to 90 percent by the usage of cellulosic ethanol. Greenhouse gas emissions in transportation sector are reduced by cellulosic ethanol in a cost-efficient manner.
