Progressive Insurance Announces Elite Finalist Team Vehicles

Posted in | Energy Efficiency | Renewable Energy

The Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE is a-$10 million competition for inspiring highly fuel efficient vehicles. The list of the finalist teams that have managed to survive tough ordeals and testing times at the MIS (Michigan International Speedway) have been announced. The competition is all set to move into the validation stages before the prize money is awarded during September 2010.

During the beginning of the competition, there were 136 vehicles from around 110 teams and it has been narrowed down to an elite group consisting of nine vehicles from only seven teams. These vehicles have adhered to the strict requirements put forth by this competition that includes the ability to achieve 90 MPGe out of the ultimate requirement of 100 MPGe, while surviving grueling dynamic range and safety tests and have proved that they can withstand difficult scenarios in the real-world of automotive racing.

A Combined Performance and Efficiency Event that was held recently at Michigan International Speedway served as the ultimate test for the vehicles in the Alternative Class category with side-by-side seating.
