Alstom has entered the Turkish wind market through a 24 MW contract for a wind farm. Alstom has entered into a contract along with Guris Construction and Engineering Co. of Turkey through its subsidiary company, Eolos Wind Energy Generation Co. for building a Turkish wind farm that would become Alstom’s first contract in the country for wind power.
The Senkoy wind farm is to be built close to Hatay city, located in Turkey’s southern part, with a power generation capacity of 24 MW. This wind farm will consist of eight ECO 100 Alstom wind turbines with a 3 MW capacity for each and expected to start operations by late 2011 or by early 2012. Under this contract, Alstom will be supplying, installing as well as commissioning the wind farm while providing operational as well as maintenance services during the initial five years.
This wind farm is estimated to have an annual production of 83 GWh approximately and will be meeting the electricity requirements of 41,000 average Turkish homes. By 2023, Turkey is targeting 20,000 MW in wind power capacity. With the country’s electricity consumption increasing at the rate of 8 to 9 % every year, Turkey is increasingly turning towards renewable energy sources for meeting its energy needs.
