Ajmer district in the State of Rajasthan, India, will earn the distinction of becoming the first state to deliver postal messages through a solar powered vehicle delivery system. Sachin Pilot, Union Telecom and IT minister of state, has inaugurated the first solar powered rickshaw for the use of postmen to deliver the postal messages.
In the first phase, the ministry has distributed five solar powered rickshaws to postmen to assess its utility and cost of use before introducing it in other postal districts of the country. The solar powered rickshaws were devised by scientists in partnership with the IT research department of the government and Kinetic Motors, a Pune-based company. The battery incorporated in the vehicle will receive solar power to get charged for use.
The minister also has inaugurated the wireless service mobile call center run by the government owned, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). The call center will meet the service requirements of over 53 lakh customers of BSNL. The inaugurated call center is expected to generate more job opportunities for youths in rural areas. The government has announced its plans to introduce similar BSNL call centers in other states.
