GE’s Wind Blade Tour Arrives at Columbus

The ‘Capture the Wind’ tour of GE, a wind turbine supplier, covering multiple U.S. states, in an effort to create awareness among Americans about clean energy and thereby creating numerous manufacturing jobs throughout the U.S, has arrived at Columbus. The tour features a sophisticated technology wind turbine blade of GE standing 131 ft.

The wind turbine blade was displayed at the Center of Science and Industry in Columbus. With this showcase, GE intends to create awareness among leaders and the public of Ohio about the technologies that help create clean energy future. Appropriate government policies, R&D investments and innovation are essential for generating future jobs in the state of Ohio.

During the tour, Ohioans who witness the blade can sign their names on the blade in support of clean energy future.

In 2009, the U.S. wind energy industry offered 85,000 jobs throughout the nation. Environment Ohio indicates that the wind energy industry in Ohio can produce around 10% of the state’s electricity needs from wind over the next ten years, sufficient to power over 1.5 million homes in Ohio.

The GE tour, which commenced in Aberdeen, South Dakota, will end in Dallas, Texas. The tour will make stops at GE Appliances & Lighting in Louisville, Kentucky; Molded Fiber Glass Companies in Gainesville, Texas; and Louisville Zoo in Louisville, Kentucky among others in the month May of 2010.
