Off the Welsh coast, huge wind turbines might be submerged as part of a project that takes advantage of the tidal energy resources available in Wales.
This is effectively an underwater scheme that represents the tidal version of the typical wind farm. The installation will take place on the seabed located in Ramsey Sound, Pembrokeshire.
The channel that is present between the island and the mainland is well-known for its robust tidal currents. This channel will be hosting three units of 15 m tidal turbines that will be connected by way of a triangular frame measuring 36 m on each of its sides. Creation of tidal streams occurs due to the ever changing gravitational pull exerted by both the sun and the moon on the oceans throughout the world.
Upon successful completion and operation, the tidal turbines will generate enough electricity for powering 1,000 Homes. This ₤1.4-million tidal turbine scheme is being developed by Tidal Energy. Moreover, the Assembly Government has given a grant of ₤572,000 for this scheme.
