GMR to Construct Solar Power Facility in Gujarat

GMR Group, a Bangalore India headquartered Infrastructure Company engaged in the construction of urban infrastructure, energy plants, high ways and airports, declared that it has received sanctioning from the State Government of Gujarat, India to construct a 25 MW solar power generating plant in the state.

The proposed plant will deploy photovoltaic know-how, a globally used power production technology known for its efficiency for generating solar power. The company received the sanction for the construction under the proposed solar power generation scheme of the Gujarat government with an aim to reach 3,000 MW solar power generation capabilities in the next five years.

The company is involved in the power generation sector for nearly 11 years. Currently the company owns three power production units producing a total of 308 MW. Including the sanctioned solar power project, the company has over 11 projects in hydel, gas, coal, thermal and solar sectors in various stages of construction with a total power production capability of 8448 MW. A news release from the company stresses how green energy aids in lowering green house gas emissions and provides long term growth. It adds that green energy in addition to providing energy competence also lessens the loss incurred during the transmission and distribution of the produced power.
