Enel Increases Geothermal Power Generation Capacity

Italy-based power provider, Enel has announced an additional geothermal power plant to its existing plant. The new plant, Radicondoli 2 will have a capacity of 20 MW, taking the total capacity of the plant to 60 MW of geothermal power. The company now has geothermal power projects generating 742 MW across the world.

The Tuscany area is a geothermally active region, generating 10% of the geothermal power produced globally. When compared to Iceland, Italy generates 30% more power from geothermal sources.

A report from RenewableEnergyWorld.com states that worldwide, the production of geothermal power has been slow this year. However, the report from Geothermal Energy Association points out some geothermal activity around the globe. Most of the projects mentioned in the association report may not be developed as per the schedule, because of equipment and financial constraints.

One of the highlights of the report is that US is the top producer of geothermal power with a capacity of about 3,086 MW, followed by Philippines with a total capacity of 1,904 MW.
