EDF Energies Nouvelles Launches Two Solar Power Units in Italy

EDF Nouvelles has declared the launch of two solar photovoltaic power systems in Italy with a total capacity of 26.1 MWp. The Loreo Solar Power Plant is located in Northern Italy’s Rovigo Province with a capacity of 12.6 MWp, while the second unit is in the Syracuse province of Sicily, with a capacity of 13.5 MWp and is called the Priolo facility.

The Loreo plant comes equipped with First Solar’s 173,200 thin film technology PV panels, while the Priolo unit is also integrated with 179,000 thin film technology PV panels from First Solar.

EDF’s Executive in charge of Southern European region, Laurence Juin, remarked that the company was excited to commission the Priolo and the Loreo plants, which would highlight their solar activities in Italy and the remarkable efforts of the local team to accomplish them. These projects would be the biggest projects to date by the company in Italy. According to him, Italy has a great potential and could be a major force to be reckoned with in solar energy projects in the future.

EDF EN Italia developed and constructed the Loreo and the Priolo units and also owns 100 % and 90% of these facilities. These two projects have augmented the company’s solar capacity in Italy and brings their total capacity to a gross value of 59.7 MWp and a net value of 45.4 MWp. EDF Energies Nouvelles has been a leading light in green electricity production with a spotlight on wind energy mainly and now recently solar energy. The group also shows their presence in biomass, marine energy and biogas renewable energy markets.
