Gulf Country Ropes in Lightbridge to Assess RE Options

Lightbridge, a pioneer in advanced nuclear fuel designs, which also provides energy consulting services to governmental and commercial organizations, declared that it has signed a consulting contract with a Gulf country in the Middle East, for providing expertise in the renewable energy (RE) field, as the country is planning to create a RE platform.

From January 2011, the global consulting experts of Lightbridge would carry out an in-depth analysis for a six month period, for evaluating RE technologies. The analysis would help to develop a strategy for RE options with an aim to implement them in the future.

According to Seth Grae, CEO and President of Lightbridge, their company had close ties with many of the Gulf region states, and that this study would help in reinforcing those ties while they explore RE options for a sustainable future. He further stated that this assessment was the first step for developing a RE platform that would take care of the rising demands for water and energy. Earlier Lightbridge has worked for this country developing an economic model of the existing water and power structure and also evaluated the future forecasts. These projections and the model would serve as a point of reference for the latest initiative.

Lightbridge would also utilize its expertise to scrutinize RE trends and technological developments and their feasibility with respect to implementation, and generate data for each technology. The data would be positioned inside a model, which would examine manifold technological  alternatives such as PV technologies, Solar cooling technologies, Wind power generation, High temperature solar thermal technologies, and Low temperature solar thermal water distillation technologies. It would also conduct a survey of potential financial and social gains along with an environmental study of impact. The insights obtained from the study would be inputted into a model and energy supply situations would be generated, that would fulfill the predicted demand for energy and water. It is also carrying out a feasibility study for deploying nuclear power plants in the country since April 2010. Usage of software for analysis and models would be done through a training program.
