Pythagoras Solar, a supplier of clear and energy efficient windows that generate solar power, declared that it has been selected by Willis Tower previously known as Sears Tower to team up with the company on a pilot project that will provide renewable energy to Willis Tower and assist it in fulfilling its energy efficiency targets.

The pilot project, which commenced in November 2010, has spread a building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) solution over the south facing windows of the 56th floor of the building. The solution, which has the inherent feature to expand over a surface, produced around 2 MW of clean energy.

The project proved that the large scale solar installations over windows while directly improving the energy efficiency of the building also assists in bettering the exterior décor of the building. The project also amply demonstrates that the impact of the building environ on climate change can be considerably reduced, which can be replicated in other comparable structures.
