Granite Construction, a fully owned auxiliary of Granite Construction, declared that its asphalt concrete and combined facilities located in Indio, California, utilizes solar power to meet nearly 75% of its power requirement.
The 318 kW solar power project incorporates six concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) solar power systems manufactured by Amonix. Each system has a dual-axis solar tracking system to gather more solar energy and produce electricity to meet the power requirements of the Indio facility. Granite Construction has also installed a similar Granite facility with three solar systems at Tucson, Arizona.
The electricity generated from the Indio facility is enough to meet the power requirements of nearly 100 homes. During non-operative conditions of the facility, the power generated by the solar systems will be sent to the Imperial Irrigation District (IID) clients. Earlier IID has assisted in implementing projects through its photovoltaic solutions program.
