At the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi, GeoModel Solar has launched new online solar tools for planning of solar photovoltaic systems and power plants. The new iMaps and pvPlanner solar software are tools designed for assessing bankable photovoltaic yield and prospecting of solar sites.

SolarGIS-iMaps

GeoModel Solar is a global provider of photovoltaic simulation tools and solar resource data. The two new tools form a part of the company’s SolarGIS online system, which includes the best practices in photovoltaic and solar simulation, scientific knowledge, and a solar resource database that covers a period of 17 years.

The tools can help developers of solar energy projects to find out the sites that have high insulation. This will help in maximizing the profitability and the generation of electricity.

GeoModel Solar’s Managing Director, Marcel Suri stated that the SolarGIS iMaps provides spatial data of 250 m, with high accuracy. It also allows selection and comparison between potential sites. For prefeasibility studies, the iMaps tool provides access to associated geographic and climate data for the chosen site. It also features interactive maps and generates data reports.

The SolarGIS pvPlanner can then help in estimating the yield of photovoltaic electricity at the chosen solar site. The planner provides bankable reports for small to medium sized photovoltaic systems. For large roof top systems, power plants and rural electrification purposes, the planner creates electricity production over a long period.
