Zotos International, a manufacturer of hair-care products, has built one of the largest wind projects in the US.

The wind project has been built to meet the company’s objective of using 100% renewable energy for its power requirements.

The 3.3 MW wind energy project consists of two 1,650 kW wind turbines, which provide electricity to Zotos' 670,000-square-foot production unit at Geneva. It is anticipated that almost 60% of the Geneva unit’s power requirements will be met by this wind power project.

As an effort to reach Zotos’ objective of utilizing 100% renewable energy, the company has recently signed a power purchase contract to buy 9 million kWh of green energy.

As per the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), Zotos wind project is the largest private industrial project in New York State.

This wind project is an attempt of the company to adopt sustainability practices. The company has also strived to save water consumption, provide energy-efficient lighting, increase rail usage and use 100% recycled materials for packaging. Furthermore, the company is using bioplastics for manufacture of its bottles.

Last year, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) honored Zotos for its efforts towards sustainability. The company was offered the 18th rank by the EPA and has become one of the Top 20 Green Power Partners of EPA for On-Site Generation.

Zotos is a subsidiary of Shiseido, which is a pioneer in the cosmetics industry. Shiseido produces styling-aid and hair-care products under different brand names including Senscience, ISO, JOICO and Zotos.
