PSE&G earned the title NJBIZ "Healthcare Hero" for its $129 million efficiency initiative in hospitals. This initiative is aimed at improving the health care quality in New Jersey.

Ralph LaRossa, Chief Operating Officer and President of PSE&G, stated that the company has been providing energy solutions for more than 100 years to its customers. This initiative focused on hospitals will enable the company’s customers to reduce their expenditure and save energy and the environment. LaRossa also stated that the company is proud and honored to work with organizations and individuals keen on improving New Jersey.

The healthcare program from PSE&G will help in reducing the financial crisis faced by hospitals by reducing the energy usage cost in these hospitals. Hospital leaders are also allowed to upgrade their energy efficiency measures without hindering their most important mission of achieving positive results and providing improved healthcare. On the whole, this new initiative helps the hospitals save money through efficient usage of energy and also helps the hospitals invest this money in life-saving training and equipment.

PSE&G at first provides an investment-grade audit to the hospitals and then the company offers a number of measures to reduce energy cost. These two aspects will create a significant impact on utility costs and energy efficiency of the hospitals. Some of the upgrades covered by this program include installing high efficiency lighting and energy management systems or replacing pumps, boilers, motors and chillers.

Up-front funding for this program is provided by PSE&G and a portion of the total cost is repaid by the hospital at zero percent interest over a period of 36 months. An average amount of 30% will be repaid by the hospitals that are currently enrolled in the program.
