Solazyme Honored with 2014 Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award

Solazyme, Inc., a renewable oil and bioproducts company, has won the 2014 Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award for its breakthrough platform technology to produce sustainable oils and products from microalgae for commercial use in a wide range of industries. The company will be honored today in a ceremony in the nation's capital.

Solazyme's win represents the first time this technology that harnesses the power of microalgae to produce high performing, sustainable, healthy and environmentally-friendly products has been recognized by this prestigious award.

"We are dedicated to solving some of the world's biggest problems by unlocking the power of microalgae, one of the smallest and most ancient life forms, to help create a more sustainable future for people and our planet," said Jonathan Wolfson, Chief Executive Officer of Solazyme. "Through this pursuit, Solazyme's renewable oils and innovative new products are helping to transform industries as well as drive greener alternatives that can alleviate pressures on fragile ecosystems. We are truly honored by the recognition of the Administration and Environmental Protection Agency."

The Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award promotes the environmental and economic benefits of developing and using novel green chemistry. This annual award recognizes technologies that incorporate the principles of green chemistry into chemical design, manufacture and use. Since its inception in 1996, the EPA in partnership with the American Chemical Society Green Chemistry Institute has received thousands of nominations from leading companies, entrepreneurs and academic researchers pioneering new discoveries.

Solazyme produces renewable oil and whole algal products from microalgae that produce a nearly unlimited variety of sustainable oils. This technology also provides the ability to produce multiple types of higher value sustainable oils regardless of season, geographic origin and feedstock source. Moving forward, Solazyme's microalgae-based technology platform is poised to deliver new building blocks of green chemistry that can help reduce environmental impact while creating innovative and better performing products.

Solazyme's oils and ingredients are currently being sold commercially in a broad array of applications including food, fuel, home and personal care and industrial products. To learn more, please visit: www.solazyme.com.
