"Greenest New Yorker" Contest Launched

The tourism promotion agency of New York State, I LOVE NEW YORK, and EscapeMaker.com are partnering to launch the first-ever "Greenest New Yorker" contest. The contest seeks to recognize citizens who are doing their best to keep the state green. Residents of New York State who are making sincere attempts to lead an eco-friendly life are being sought by the agency.

Important green New Yorkers and a panel of celebrities will judge the entries in this green contest. Distinguished panelists include Mario Batali, who has six Certified Green Restaurants; Josh Dorfman, the author of The Lazy Environmentalist on a Budget; Peter Facinelli, actor in The Twilight Saga movies; Robin Wilson, eco-friendly interior designer, whose has completed many high profile projects including that Bill Clinton’s office in Harlem and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s "Green House"; and widely known architect Morris Adjmi, whose current projects include New York University’s LEED platinum building and the LEED gold High Line Building.

On Earth Day, 22nd April, the winner of the Grand Prize will be announced. The winner of the contest will receive a three-day, two-night I LOVE NEW YORK Green Getaway package of her or his choice for two people to one of top ten green locations in New York.

To take part in the contest, participants have to fill out a form in the website http://www.escapemaker.com/ilovenygreen and describe in not more than 250 words why they should be considered as the top green New Yorker. The contribution to environment, sustainability, and eco practices adopted by the participant and how these measures can be followed by others has to be described. The participants should submit their entries before the midnight of April 8, 2010. Photographs and videos can also be attached to support their claims.
