Siemens to Erect Wind Turbines for RES Canada

The Siemens Energy Sector is a leading provider of a range of solutions, services and products for the production, transmission and supply of electric power and for the mining, conversion and transfer of natural oil and gas. Recently the company received a work order for the Greenwich Wind Energy Project involving the construction of 43 units of 2.3-MW SWT-2.3-101 type wind turbines near Thunder Bay in Ontario, Canada. Earlier, during November 2009, the company received a similar order for providing wind turbines for the Talbot Wind Energy Project located close to Chatham, Ontario.

Renewable Energy Systems (RES) Canada Inc, a principal renewable energy company and an associate of RES America, ordered for the 86 wind turbines with the combined production capacity of approximately 200MW. On completion of wind turbine installations, the wind farm is expected to generate enough power to provide electricity to over 60,000 homes in Canada.

The Talbot Wind Energy Project is expected to be finished and ready for commissioning during December 2010. The installation of 43 wind turbines for the Greenwich Wind Energy Project is scheduled to begin in June 2011.

In collaboration with RES America, Siemens has provided 158 units of 2.3MW wind turbines in the US for various wind energy projects such as the Sweetwater 4B, NineCanyon III, Whirlwind and Hackberry.

Siemens is a leading provider of technologies that are eco-friendly. During the fiscal year 2009, Siemens Wind power earned a revenue of around EUR2323 billion. The eco-friendly products provided by Siemens have enabled its clients to reduce CO2 emissions to the tune of 210 million tons, which equals the total annual CO2 emissions produced by Berlin, London, Tokyo and New York.
