Saflex and Oerlikon Solar Partner to Develop Saflex Radiant White PA27

Published on April 15, 2010 at 7:19 AM

Saflex is collaborating with Oerlikon Solar to produce a new value-added encapsulant named Saflex Radiant White PA27, which helps enhance the efficiency of solar modules while decreasing material usage.

Unlike conventional encapsulants, the new product ensures durability of panels and also reflects back the light that was not absorbed by active layers. Due to its high reflectivity, the Saflex Radiant White PA27 provides better panel efficiency compared to metallic back contacts or white paint.

Compared to conventional PVB encapsulants that have thicknesses ranging from 0.76 to 1.14 mm, the Saflex Radiant White PA27 has a mere 0.51 mm thickness.

Saflex Global Business Director for Photovoltaics division Christopher Reed opined that by collaborating with Oerlikon Solar, the two companies were able to produce an efficient reflective encapsulant meant for Micromorph PV technology manufacturers to assist in maximizing productivity and reducing costs.

Based on the 3G PVB chemistry, the Saflex Radiant White PA27 is less sensitive to moisture, which facilitates high adhesion.
