Canadian Solar Receives Contract Offers for Solar Power Projects

As part of the Feed-in Tariff (FIT) program of the Green Energy and Green Economy Act, Canadian Solar Inc. has been given Contract Offers of photovoltaic power generation projects for developing 176 MW. The projects were jointly developed with numerous renewable energy developers such as UC Solar, Saturn Power, Axio Power Inc. and 3G Energy Corp. These projects are likely to be finished by 2011 and 2012.

The CEO and Chairman of Canadian Solar Shawn Qu stated that the company has installed nearly 700 MW of modules in around 30 nations. The new Contract Offers will help the company realize its goal of completely removing fossil-fired power generation in the province of Ontario by 2014. The projects, representing only 28% of the overall project approvals as on date, will help bring jobs to Ontario, including local production by the company and its partners, in addition to construction, electrical, engineering and project development among others.

The company intends to set up a state-of-the-art module production plant in Ontario by the first quarter of 2011, employing around 500 people. Upon receiving final approval, Canadian Solar will supply the Ontario Power Authority with renewable energy credits and power.
