How Smart Technology Can Support the Energy Revolution

Fossil fuels like lignite and hard coal are detrimental to the environment. Germany would like to transition to a greener economy and continues to depend on renewable energies as a result of the energy revolution.

Intelligent technology, in particular, must support people in this transition and make power generation more environmentally friendly.

The Problem of Climate Change

Phasing Out Nuclear Energy

Nuclear and coal-fired power generation has a major impact on the surrounding environment. Also, emissions of carbon dioxide and other pollutants have increased rapidly and climate change is becoming harder and harder to stop.

Thus, Germany has set itself the goal of generating at least 80% of its energy from renewable sources by 2050 and gradually decreasing nuclear power over the next five years.

Over the past few years, just 35% of energy has been achieved from renewable sources, thereby making the emergency of action all the clearer.

Loss of Energy

The energy source that has been utilized for the power plants is fossil fuels. Since these are finite raw materials, electricity can only be produced so long as there is enough raw material reserve. At one point, this already quite exhausted resource will be consumed fully.

The energy can also only be generated based on the location and due to the resistance of the pipes, a high proportion of the harmful energy produced is ultimately lost on its journey into the households.

Alternative Renewable Energy

Using renewable energies, the commodities are to be used to the full and in a sustainable manner. Renewable energy, unlike harmful fossil fuels, has the potential to regenerate itself. For instance, it is sourced from wind energy and solar energy.

But if the sun does not shine or it is not windy, such unstable energies have to be stored and the consumption has to be adapted as per the availability.

The Changeover

Intelligent Technology

Intelligent technology is a great way to support the efficient generation of electricity. Several households in Germany are showing huge interest in a smart solution for electricity and light supply.

The intelligent technology will help gather, process, store data, and interact separately with the environment. Smart homes and buildings are becoming more and more popular and score points with smart solar panels and wireless charging stations for e-bikes or e-cars.

As the houses utilize a generous power storage unit, the energy produced on-site could be made available separately from the energy producers. This is why several smart buildings tend to produce more energy compared to what is required.

The Production of Electricity

Electricity production has to be decentralized in a huge way in the future and this will bring people closer to using renewable energy in their daily life. Also, the technology is only considered a human friend if it is developed with user-friendliness in mind.

Energy Revolution in Everyday Life

Companies That Care About Sustainability

Several companies have moved away from conventional power generation and are now depending on renewable energies. OTT HydroMet with its brand Lufft, based in Fellbach, has been developing professional climate and environmental measurement technology for nearly 140 years to enhance energy supply and make it more eco-friendly.

Hightech Devices

Intelligent measuring devices like ultrasonic wind sensors help to gather data and process it in an efficient way. This is vital for the development of wind farms. Also, solar monitoring is being taken into account: Among others, solar radiation could be quantified with the help of Lufft weather sensors that have been fitted with pyranometers from Kipp & Zonen, another OTT HydroMet brand.

The Cooperation

The collaboration between huge companies and private households is crucial for the energy revolution to be carried out. Intelligent technology is always directly associated with digitization and smart home devices, which tends to streamline the operation.

Other industries are also making increasing use of this technology, like the textile industry. This also includes the development of sustainable and smart clothing.
