Laboratory Waste Management

The nuances of managing laboratory waste within the RCRA regulations are many; the regulations were intended primarily for large generators with few waste streams, the opposite of typical laboratory generation. This presentation will provide regulatory background and explore the various ways to safely and economically manage chemical waste generated by academic as well as research & development facilities. Topics like waste determinations, satellite accumulation, RCRA exemptions, and broker selection will be discussed. Of particular interest is a review of the possible conditional use of municipal systems for disposal of laboratory waste.
