The SOLYS Gear Drive is a high-end sun tracker, capable of handling all types of weather conditions and locations. It has been developed based on the key features of the SOLYS 2 and has improved capabilities, making it ideal for application in the harshest climates and with heavy loads. It is designed with the power to point precisely at the sun even in extremely windy conditions, and to break the ice that collects overnight when the tracker is not operational.
The system is more powerful than the belt drive system of the SOLYS 2. The maximum payload is increased to 80 kg and the torque is raised to 60 Nm, allowing the SOLYS Gear Drive to handle multiple instruments and/or heavy instruments and other loads. The integrated GPS receiver automatically configures location and very precise time information upon installation.
The user interface software allows remote logging and monitoring of the tracker status, azimuth and sun zenith angles, GPS time and date and many more. The software can also be used to fix the communication parameters, such as manual or fixed IP address and baud rate. The integrated web interface can be applied to visualize operational parameters, upload new firmware when available, or download history log files.
Requirements for Building a Solar Monitoring Station
To construct a solar radiation measurement station, the SOLYS Gear Drive is the base to hold a number of instruments to monitor sky and solar radiation. For use in very hot climates, it is possible for a sun shield to be fitted, extending the upper temperature range to +60°C. For use in very cold regions, an insulated cold weather cover is provided, allowing use in temperatures up to -50°C and with wind speeds up to 20 m/s.
The SOLYS Gear Drive is fitted with the mountings of a pyrheliometer and includes the sun sensor for dynamic tracking. However, a tripod stand is not included. A cast aluminum SOLYS Tripod Floor Stand can be used. In extreme conditions as well as with high loads, it is advisable to use the heavy duty tripod floor stand.
The SOLYS Gear Drive has been tested and protected against the highest levels of EMC, ESD, and surge disturbances that might occur. The SOLYS Gear Drive sun tracker, featuring high precision reduction gear, is able to integrate the highest payload, the broadest temperature range, and highly advanced communication with smart software for real-time status data.
