Ultrasonic Level Sensors with Deterioration Resistance from Chemical Exposure

When placed in chemical tanks, the ultrasonic level sensors from Senix offer resistance to deterioration due to chemical exposure. These compact, rugged ultrasonic level sensors are capable of measuring different liquids ranging from chemical tanks in the paper and food processing industries (not suitable for high-temperature CIP operations), to diesel fuel in rail locomotives.

Heavy-duty electronics are epoxy potted into a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) housing that has the ability to physically isolate the electronics and transducer from the chemicals and is sustainable even upon exposure to bases and acids. The sensors are used in some of the harshest factory settings as well as indoors and outdoors. The sensors are also used in liquid level applications in which chemical resistance is not mandatory.

Smart Communications

All CHEM sensors are available with serial data communications to connect with SenixVIEW software or other equipment.

Models have either an RS-485 or RS-232 interface, with the below-mentioned communications format:

  • Baud rates from 9600 (default) to 115,200 bps
  • Modifiable using SenixVIEW software
  • Selectable Modbus (default) or ASCII streaming protocols

The RS-485 Serial Data Interface is recommended unless connecting to an RS-232 device. Following are the advantages of RS-485 over RS-232:

  • Permits longer cable lengths at higher baud rates
  • Multi-drop Modbus addressing allows networks of up to 32 sensors
  • Improved noise immunity in industrial environments
  • Outcome: additional capability at the same cost

If only a serial data interface is required, all models are offered without the analog and switch outputs at less cost and reduced power consumption, and come with a 4-wire dual twisted pair (plus drain) data cable rather than the regular 9-wire cable.

Smart Interfaces

Multiple simultaneous outputs enable these sensors to connect with different types of equipment.

  • Analog voltage (0–10 VDC) usually used with motor drives and similar equipment
  • Two switches: Each configurable as Sourcing (PNP) or Sinking (NPN)
  • Two analog 4–20 mA current loops (sourcing and sinking) for process industry transmitter applications

Ultimate Flexibility

All sensor outputs are SenixVIEW configurable by users.

  • Switches are available with time delays (on, off, and no target) and both hysteresis and window modes
  • All switches and analogs have response settings for power-on initialization, SYNC lost, and loss of target echo (delay and state)
  • Analogs can be calibrated between any two distances, positive or negative slope, adjustable analog limits, and no-target time delay
