The Energy Development Co-operative Limited (solar-wind.co.uk) was established in 1997 and is based in Oulton Broad, Suffolk, UK.
The EDC was founded to provide meaningful employment and increase awareness, education and the availability of solar and wind technologies. The organisation was formed as a Workers Co-operative to ensure democratic ownership, and was registered as a Limited company in 1998.
Starting from very humble beginnings, the company had to pull itself up by it's shoestrings for the first few years of it's existence. A small business start-up grant from Suffolk County Council and a loan from ICOF enabled the company to start trading.
The business strategy was to target off-grid commercial power applications, with a strong focus on quality, reliability, service and support. Over the next few years, slowly but surely, the client base grew into a diverse range of businesses. We now have some large commercial clients with whom we have been working for well over a decade.
We continue to expand our range of services to ensure we offer the best possible support for our clients, and we provide a range of consultancy, site survey & system design services.
Now, more than ever, the world needs to move to a carbon-free energy supply. At the same time, the requirements for off-grid power sources in the commercial sector have increased dramatically in the world of interconnectivity.
Going forward, we are developing a range of pre-built, modular, off-grid power systems - designed to make the installation and deployment far simpler. Initial trials with shipping container-based systems have proved highly successful.
