Kenya Signs Pact with Brazil for Ethanol and Biodiesel Know-How

Brazil and Kenya have agreed to support and develop ethanol and biodiesel, encouraging swapping of technical know-how and guidance.

World over, people  are hesitant about the manufacture and use of biofuels that are engendered from plants which are edible.. Kenya is one such country that produces sugarcane, exclusively for the production of ethanol. Experts from Brazil are assisting Kenya in improving the production of sugarcane and assist them in installing ethanol manufacturing facilities in centrally located places all over the country. Mr. Luciano Sousa, a ministry official, from Brazilian foreign affairs, said at Nairobi, after a dialogue with Kenyan experts, that the joint efforts will allow Kenya to utilize the 85 years of Brazilian familiarity and competency, to understand her capability in the production of biofuel.

Daniel Machado da Fonseca, a bio fuel expert from Brazil said normally the signed agreements will ensure earmarking of biofuel zones in the countries that sign the pact to save food crops and provide food security. He added more than 100 countries all over the world use bio energy and have incorporated it in their energy policy.

The other African countries that have signed the bio fuel agreement with Brazil include Mozambique, Uganda, Sudan, Ethiopia and Tanzania.
