Edward G. Rendell, the Governor of Pennsylvania, has announced federal and state investments of $20.5 million which will help create 1,400 job opportunities in the clean energy industry.
This funding is likely to benefit 40 different energy projects which will generate over 10 billion kWh of electrical energy over the lifetime of the projects. This is sufficient for powering 1 million Pennsylvanian homes annually and decrease carbon emissions by around 9 million tons.
Edward noted that this investment provided by means of the PEDA (Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority) will leverage private funds of over $211 million. Since the year 2005, PEDA has made investments in 201 projects of over $99 million that have produced funds of over $883 million.
Edward stressed the importance of increasing the clean energy portfolio standards of Pennsylvania, opining that higher standards will result in increased generation of jobs and spur economic development for Pennsylvania.
