Recent report from Spanish Wind Energy Association (AEE) indicates that the total wind power installed capacity in Spain has reached 19,876 MW on 30th June, a whooping 727 MW increase during the first part of the year.
Earlier the AEE had set a Renewable Energy Plan (PER) for the period 2005 to 2010 as 20,155 MW and AEE expects to reach the target before the year end. During the first six months of the year, the wind energy sector in Spain has witnessed an increase of 3.8% which indicates a hold back in the speed of wind turbine installations during the recent years. The slow growth is attributed to the Register of Pre-allocation bill introduced during mid-2009. The report indicates that for the purpose of inducing normal growth in wind energy sector and to meet the new National Renewable Energy Plan’s (2010-2020) set target of 38,000 MW it is essential to close the regulatory frame work during the coming years.
The report cautions the following months as crucial for the wind power industry as regulatory terms continue to be in force. It indicates that the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce will work along with the rigid frame work to replace the existing regulatory terms by the year 2013. The report cautions that the new regulations should have enough power to manage the contest in the self-sufficient communities to guarantee a regulated and steady growth in wind sector.
José Donoso, Spanish Wind Energy Association’s President, said that the earlier closing of the current legislation will put an end to the uncertainties faced by the wind sector during recent times. He wanted any new legislation that is introduced should provide long term prospective to the investors in wind energy products assuring them minimum profits in the up coming projects.
