Weld County Takes Initiatives for Establishing Wind Farm

The Northeast Weld County has taken official steps towards transforming into a top-ranking energy hub in Colorado.

Several state and county officials along with BP Wind Energy staff and others gathered at Stoneham’s Dewey’s Bar & Grill towards the official construction beginning of Cedar Creek II project. This project would be featuring 123 wind turbines which would get hooked into Cedar Creek I’s electrical grid.

The Cedar Creek I project began operations in 2008 and currently features 274 wind turbines. This Cedar Creek II wind energy project would be employing approximately 350 people during its peak construction. Cedar Creek I has its location in Grover’s northeast while Cedar Creek II has its location north of Stoneham and New Raymer.

The electricity produced by these two wind farms is being sold to Colorado’s Public Service Co., which forms a division of Xcel Energy. The first wind farm Cedar Creek I would be generating approximately 300 MW of electrical energy while the second wind farm Cedar Creek II would be generating approximately 250 MW of electricity. These wind farms help establish Weld County as a major energy center for Colorado towards utilizing alternative energy sources such as oil, gas and solar.
