Hydro Québec Announces PPA with Innergex, Rivière-du-Loup for a Wind Farm

Innergex and the Rivière-du-Loup MRC have declared that they have been chosen by Hydro Québec Distribution for a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with regard to the Viger-Denonville Community Wind Farm.

This project would have a 24.6 MW total installed capacity and would begin commercial operations by 2013. The PPA is contingent on the approval by the Régie de l'énergie of Québec and would allow both Innergex and the Rivière-du-Loup MRC to continue to develop the project. According to Michel Lagacé, who is the Préfet of the Rivière-du-Loup MRC, the company was glad that this project was approved and that it was a fantastic opportunity for both the municipalities and the whole region where the farm would be constructed. He further disclosed that considerable local benefits would also be gained and these would prove to be highly beneficial for the two struggling communities. Innergex CEO and President, Michel Letellier, stated that the teamwork between the two companies was outstanding and hoped that this relationship would continue to be harmonious while the wind farm project was being implemented.

The Viger-Denonville farm would be situated in the region of Bas-Saint-Laurent in Québec in the municipalities of Saint-Épiphane and Saint-Paul-de-la-Croix. It will include 12 wind turbines with an overall 24.6 MW installed capacity. Both the companies would have an equal equity interest of 50% as per the partnership. The 12 turbines would be installed between the 5th RR West and the 3rd RR West in Saint-Paul-de-la-Croix and also to the south of 4th RR East in the Saint- Épiphane region.

Innergex with a solid 20 years of experience behind them in wind energy project development in the Québec region already has three wind farms under it through the Cartier Wind Energy in L'Anse-à-Valleau, Baie-des-Sables, and Gaspé Peninsula with a total installed capacity of 319.5 MW. It is also in the process of constructing three more wind farms, the Montagne-Sèche, and the Phases I and II of the Gros Morne with a 270MW total installed capacity. Innergex will hold a 38% interest in all these projects. The Rivière-du-Loup MRC, an autonomous body covering 13 municipalities with 34,299 residents in them was established in 1982.
