California Independent System Operator Readies to Meet the Growing Solar Power Production

The state of California has in recent times witnessed a shift in the grid connected renewable energy production. The operators of the grid have observed that there is an increased production of electric power from solar resources when compared to the power generated from wind sources. The power grids anticipate that the increased supply from solar energy will continue in future too.

California Independent System Operator (CISO), a not for profit company that manages majority of the high-voltage power grids of the state, asserts the continuation of the trend in its Five-Year Strategic Plan. It quotes the pipe line of the renewable energy projects as an indicator for the shift in preferences. CISO has unveiled its future plans to keep the grid ready to supply electricity to the charging stations to power the batteries of electric vehicles and to maintain large level energy storage facilities. The company feels that the considered plans are required to keep pace with the future markets that focus more on the use of renewable energy sources.

Presently CISO is contributing its mite to meet the set renewable energy goal of utilizing 33% of the power from renewable energy sources by the year 2020. The company is also upgrading its power transmission lines in places that grow with a number of renewable energy projects.
