Representatives of Chevron have met the Governor of Kalinga, Jocel Baac, to discuss the potential of generating geothermal power in Tinglayan and Pasil in Kalinga. Chevron has collaborated with the Guidance Management (GMC) and Aragorn Power and Energy (APEC) for the geothermal power exploration project.
Chevron’s consultant, Josef Gueta, said that the partnership is currently assessing the results of past explorers at the sites. He further said that the firms would like to analyze the possibilities of geothermal power production in the sites along with management and logistics transactions with the residents.
Gueta continued that Chevron offers financial and technological assistance to GMC and APEC who were its predecessor in geothermal power exploration in Kalinga. In contrast, Nestor Castro, an anthropologist at Chevron, commented that the company would like to settle the issues with the locals first before its investment in the geothermal exploration. He said that there are issues on land possession. Baac has also the same opinion on land ownership.
