The Douglas County School District (DCSD) in Douglas County, Colorado will soon sport solar panels and generate 3.1 MW solar power to meet its electricity requirements.
The solar project for which the school district is working along with Regeneration Finance will allow the school district to save on its energy costs, educate the children in the schools and above all will cut down its carbon footprint.
DCSD has chosen REgeneration Finance through a request for proposal (RFP) process in July last year. REgeneration Finance will install the solar systems valued around $18,000,000 with no upfront investment for the school district under a power purchase agreement (PPA). Premier Power Renewable Energy in association with Power Partners MasTec has been chosen by REgeneration Finance to design and construct the solar installation. REgeneration Finance will meet the entire cost of installing the solar systems and will continue to maintain it. DCSD will buy the power generated by the system at a reduced price. The cheap priced energy will allow the school district to save over $5,500,000 in the next 25 years.
The project has already received the necessary approvals and permits for the construction in mid November and the required solar modules, mounting equipment and inverters have already reached the construction site. The construction of the project is moving as scheduled and is anticipated to get completed on time.
