Sanmina-SCI, eSolar Partner to Offer Optimal Value and Cost for Utility-Scale Power Plants

Sanmina-SCI and eSolar have entered into a partnership to offer optimal value and cost for utility-scale power plants based on their experience in production, local content-enhanced component design, and solar thermal energy solutions.

eSolar is the developer of modular, scalable concentrating solar power (CSP) plant technology and Sanmina-SCI is an integrated production services firm manufacturing complex products. As per the collaboration, the two companies will team up for the optimization of eSolar's solar collector system, which is already being used in several CSP facilities in operation.

eSolar's modular and scalable CSP plant design uses a sun tracking device or heliostat, which can be manufactured in superior-quality plants and can be installed easily. The heliostats accurately track the sun and reflect the sunlight towards a tower-mounted receiver, which uses the sun’s heat to boil water for generating steam. The resulting steam powers a conventional turbine and generator to manufacture clean electricity.

Sanmina-SCI’s Executive Vice President of Industrial Markets, Tom Clawson stated that eSolar is working on producing cost-efficient renewable energy and the company is happy about its selection to help this design effort. The company’s skills will be utilized to design certain crucial building blocks for eSolar's utility-scale solar projects to boost power production using clean energy sources.

eSolar’s Senior Vice President of Operations, Gary Breton informed that since the company continues to develop large-scale solar power projects across the world, it requires a partner who can upgrade its products for cost-efficiency, scalability and manufacturability.
