Pepco Energy Services Inc., a subsidiary of Pepco Holdings Inc. (PHI) and a leading provider of performance-based energy efficiency and renewable energy projects and services, has been awarded a task order to implement a comprehensive Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) at the U.S. Army Natick Soldier Systems Center in Natick, Mass.
The task order was awarded under the U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville's Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity contract for Energy Savings Performance Contracting and has an initial design and construction value of approximately $8 million.
The Natick Soldier Systems Center is an Army research and development facility and is the only active-duty Army installation in the six New England states. If a soldier wears it, eats it, sleeps under it or has it airdropped to him, it's likely to have been researched and developed at the Natick Soldier Systems Center.

Under this task order, Pepco Energy Services will design and install a series of energy conservation measures (ECMs) that will allow the Natick Soldier Systems Center to exceed the Army’s 30 percent energy reduction goal by 2015. ECM highlights include new windows for three of Natick’s largest buildings, building envelope improvements, new LED lighting, a new non-proprietary energy management controls system (EMCS) and a packaged cogeneration system that will generate electricity on-site and use recovered waste heat to provide lower cost heating and cooling to certain buildings. During the 23-year performance term of the ESPC, Pepco Energy Services will provide Natick with comprehensive measurement and verification services in support of guaranteed savings, as well as ongoing maintenance of the cogeneration system.
