Energy Conservation and Building Maintenance to be Focus of Conference

Did you know that buildings consume one-third of the energy worldwide? And that by 2030, world energy consumption is projected to increase 60 percent?

Building owners and facility managers do not need to wait to make changes in their buildings. Proven technologies, energy conservation measures and a structured predictive maintenance strategy can effectively meet the demand and produce energy savings.

To address these opportunities, Trane leaders will be presenting two educational sessions at the Advanced Facilities Management and Engineering Conference (AFEC 2008) on November 12-13 in Denver. The conference brings together facility managers and engineers to discuss the latest trends related to the management and maintenance of buildings.

"Preventive Maintenance: Optimizing Your Maintenance Program"

When: November 12, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. (Conference is November 12-13) Where: Denver Merchandise Mart Expo Center, Denver, CO Jim Shilling, manager of Trane's Facilities Management Services, and Charles W. Bennett Jr., a sales manager for Trane, will present "Preventive Maintenance: Optimizing Your Maintenance Program."

Shilling will discuss how to develop a business plan that aligns a building's predictive maintenance needs with its overall business goals. He will also explain the benefits of a good basic maintenance program for healthful, reliable and efficient HVAC operation; the significant gains that can be achieved by focusing on performance improvement as opposed to keeping systems operating at design conditions; and ten specific suggestions to get more from your HVAC O&M dollar.

Bennett will discuss the vital systems that need to be included in a preventative maintenance program and how such a program helps to reduce energy costs and allow for effective asset management and planning. He will also discuss the essential tools for analyzing chiller reliability, including vibration analysis, tube testing, oil analysis, exchanger enhancement and compressor renewal.

"Building for the Future: The Elements of Success"

When: November 13, 2008 at 1:15 p.m. (Conference is November 12-13) Where: Denver Merchandise Mart Expo Center, Denver, CO Dane Taival, director of Trane's controls and contracting business in the Americas, will present "Building for the Future: The Elements of Success." Taival will discuss missed opportunities for making existing buildings more efficient and the proven technologies available to address the issues, including high efficiency chilled water systems, thermal energy storage, geothermal heat pump systems, cogeneration and wind power. Also included in the presentation are energy trends, solutions and technologies, case examples and an overview on asset management for sustainable building.
