A new project under development in London is turning human waste into an environmentally friendly fuel for cooking.
Gardiner CH4 toilet
The system relies upon a revolutionary toilet that packages human poo thatis then collected and exchanged for methane gas that is used for cooking. The packaged waste is processed into the methane that is exchanged in the system.
Known as the Gardiner CH4 or GCH4, the unit is a low-cost mechanical toilet, in which a biodegradable lining material transfers and contains excrement in a sealed container which the user empties into the biodigestor, sited at an outdoor location, in exchange for methane gas: free cooking fuel.
