Evolution Solar Joins “Go Solar Texas Coalition” to Promote Solar Projects

Evolution Solar Corp. made an announcement that it is becoming a part of Go Solar Texas Coalition. This coalition, which comprises green businesses, public officials and environmental groups, was formed to promote solar projects in Texas.

A report was released by the coalition last week on how state incentives would benefit Texas businesses. A letter was also sent by the group to Texas Public Utility Commission and Gov. Rick Perry, suggesting ways how solar power capacity of the state could be expanded.

Robert Hines, president of Evolution Solar, said the company is delighted to be a part of the coalition and aims to support its efforts at all levels. In the country, Texas has got the potential to have the largest solar installed capacity, states the report from the coalition. The group has requested the Texas governor to set solar goals for the state. By the year 2015, Texas should develop 1,000 MW of solar power and it should be 5,000 MW by 2025, said the coalition.  A new rule is being considered by the Texas Public Utility Commission, which will require electric companies to receive 500 MW of solar power and from other renewable sources by 2015.

The coalition has also suggested various ways for the promotion of solar power in the state such as providing incentives and rebates for solar systems integration or pre-wiring for solar power during construction. The coalition also wants more investment in research and development. Homeowner associations that reject solar installations through deed restrictions should be banned, the group said.
